When my husband got a new job at Wells Fargo, we added Delta's Premier plan as our secondary insurer, keeping the plan from my work as the primary dental insurer. We figured double coverage would save us on co-pays. Delta's PPO/Premier plan has a clause for "no duplicate coverage." I thought this meant my dentist would never be paid more than 100% for a procedure. My dentist thought the same thing. Instead, it means that if the primary insurer's payment equals what Delta would have paid, had it been primary -- Delta will pay NOTHING! If I had made Delta the primary carrier, my root canal and three crowns would have been 100% covered. Instead, I now have to pay my dentist $1,339. Delta assumes virtually no liability if they are declared the secondary insurer. I find that sneaky.
